Lake Havasu is surrounded by the gorgeous Sonoran Desert and the incredible Mohave Desert. The Colorado River supplies Lake Havasu with a large percentage of its water. Lake Havasu City is best known as the home of the famous London Bridge. The bridge began sinking into the River Thames in London. Robert McCulloch, Founder of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and Chairman of McCulloch Oil Corporation was looking for a landmark to make the area more interesting to visitors. He submitted a bid for the bridge and eventually won. The bridge was dismantled and shipped via barge to the coast in California. The parts were taken by truck to Lake Havasu and rebuilt "brick by brick." Today when people think about Lake Havasu, the London Bridge immediately comes to mind. It continues to draw visitors from all over the world and helps keep the Havasu tourism industry going strong.
